'Fire' Art Nouveau Print
This print was inspired by the work of Alphonse Mucha, one of the great Art Nouveau visionaries of the late 1800s.
When Tokugawa Japan finally opened to foreign trade in the mid 1800s, Japanese Ukiyo-e prints flooded Europe. The bold, graphic Japanese aesthetic inspired many European artists and sparked several new movements, including Art Nouveau.
I love the border that frames this design. The burned, interlocking branches are both barren and beautiful. As a student of nature's shapes and forms, I've come to appreciate that even fire can create beauty in its destructive path.
