Before I started Ukiyo-e Heroes, I used to be a children's book illustrator. I would spend hours playing with my kids, thinking about the nature of childhood, and how to tell stories that connect with children. I still play with my kids, but a part of me really misses those days! 

This design was a refreshing return to childhood. It would be so cool to climb on a giant, intelligent plant-tortoise, and swing from its branches! I hope this design gives you a refreshing glimpse of childhood too!

This print was inspired by the work of Alphonse Mucha, one of the great Art Nouveau visionaries of the late 1800s. 

When Tokugawa Japan finally opened to foreign trade in the mid 1800s, Japanese Ukiyo-e prints flooded Europe. The bold, graphic Japanese aesthetic inspired many European artists and sparked several new movements, including Art Nouveau.
