This print was inspired by the work of Alphonse Mucha, one of the great Art Nouveau visionaries of the late 1800s. 

When Tokugawa Japan finally opened to foreign trade in the mid 1800s, Japanese Ukiyo-e prints flooded Europe. The bold, graphic Japanese aesthetic inspired many European artists and sparked several new movements, including Art Nouveau. 

As a child, I loved climbing trees and peering out at the world through a canopy of leaves. It's an entirely new perspective, one that feels hidden and safe. In this print I wanted to glimpse into that same secret world, where these creatures make their home. It's a world criss-crossed with branching walkways, and secret passages through dense, leafy growth.
